Memphis continues to be the muse to great musicians\u2014and one of the most desirable places to record in the world. It spent a staggering 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart and seven weeks on the top of the UK Singles Chart. Uptown Funk was certified 11 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association and took home the Record of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The hit earned Willie Mitchell\u2019s son, engineer and producer Lawrence \u201cBoo\u201d Mitchell, his first Grammy and reminded everyone why Memphis remains one of the oldest continually operating music capitals in the world. The track was recorded at Stax Studios. Regarding his recording session, Mellencamp told the Rolling Stone, &#8220;[T Bone] and I were laughing. We got five songs here last night. We asked ourselves, &#8216;What the fuck were we doing in the 70s and 80s, spending days and days on a drum sound, when it was all right here the whole time?'&#8221; &#8220;Everything was set up exactly as Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley recorded. The track by Blockboy JB and Drake debuted at number six and later peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first top 10 single for BlocBoy JB. The music video was also shot in Memphis and features BlocBoy JB, Drake, rapper Moneybagg Yo, former Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph, and their crew at various locations throughout the city.
