Let\u2019s be honest. There are a million wonderful things to do in Memphis<\/a>, which is why we get over 10 million visitors to our city every year. So where do we \u2014 as Memphians \u2014 go for day trips if we have the time and budget to get away? It\u2019s tough, but here are five places to visit when the bar is already being set pretty high at home:<\/p>\n

1. Little Rock, Arkansas<\/h2>\n

Whether you want to see history or get away from it, Little Rock is your place to go. See the William J. Clinton Presidential Library or enjoy the Museum of Discovery. Take in the River Market District or visit the Rock Town Distillery. Whether you\u2019re up for visiting the Arkansas Arts Center or the Little Rock Zoo, you\u2019ll certainly find something to explore that\u2019ll make the trip worth your time and effort.<\/p>\n

2. Nashville, Tennessee<\/h2>\n

As the capital of Tennessee, Nashville has a lot to offer. Visit the \u201cchurch of country music\u201d or see the city\u2019s replica of the Greek Parthenon in Centennial Park. Visit Broadway or take a live walking tour. And above all, visit one of the famous food establishments such as Prince\u2019s Hot Chicken Shack or Rolf & Daughters. You won\u2019t leave disappointed.<\/p>\n

3. Oxford, Mississippi<\/h2>\n

Named after the British city of Oxford, there\u2019s much to see and do on this day trip. Explore the campus of Ole Miss (with its many unique opportunities) or visit the famous, beloved home of William Faulkner. Enjoy the city\u2019s farmer\u2019s market (known as OXCM) or visit Big Bad Breakfast in the Mid-Town Shopping Mall. There\u2019s truly something for everyone in this city.<\/p>\n

4. Tupelo, Mississippi<\/h2>\n

Best known for being \u201cthe birthplace of Elvis,\u201d this might be the only spot in the world that gets anywhere close to loving Elvis as much as we do. But \u2014 if you\u2019re looking to put a little space between you and the king of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll \u2014 \u00a0there\u2019s more to this town than meets the eye. Visit the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway or check out the famous automobile museum. And, perhaps the greatest reason of all to go: Here, it\u2019s acceptable to eat fried chicken with biscuits and gravy for breakfast.<\/p>\n

5. Water Valley, Mississippi<\/h2>\n

This is the getaway<\/a> on this list that\u2019s not like the others. Water Valley has become a much-loved day trip location precisely because it\u2019s an escape from the big city. Known for being a small, laid-back town with state forests and a decent brewing company, the reason to visit Water Valley is there\u2019s really not<\/em> much to do. And sometimes that\u2019s exactly what you need. If you need some R & R for your heart and soul, this is your spot.<\/p>\n

No matter what you choose to do, enjoy your time away! But just know that the best part of taking one of these day trips will be coming back home.<\/p>\n
